Meet Our Brightening Discoloration Fade Serum

We know what a nuisance hyperpigmentation can be, that's why we created a serum with multiple hyperpigmentation fighting ingredients to help fade stubborn discoloration. This lightweight gel serum does not only fade the appearance of hyperpigmentation, but also brightens dull skin, smooths and reduces mild redness.

Tyrosinase in our skin helps produce melanin. However, when our skin is irritated either by the sun, injuries or pimples caused by acne, tyrosinase produces excess melanin in order to protect the skin. This unfortunately leads to hyperpigmentation. Most ingredients used to lighten or fade hyperpigmentation are called ‘tyrosinase inhibitors’. This means they help to inhibit or suppress excess production of tyrosinase.

The gold standard ingredient for fading hyperpigmentation is a tyrosinase inhibitor called hydroquinone. However, it has been shown to cause skin sensitisation and exogenous ochronosis (blue/black marks) when used long term, not used correctly or when not used under the supervision of a dermatologist. This is why we formulated our serum with ingredients that are safer and milder than hydroquinone but still as effective.

WHAT'S IN IT?

Our Brightening Discoloration Fade Serum is formulated with five clinically proven hyperpigmentation fighting ingredients that work synergistically together; niacinamide, alpha arbutin, oligopeptide-68, potassium azeloyl diglycinate and tranexamic acid.

Alpha Arbutin is a derivative of hydroquinone that is more gentle and safer. It is a tyrosinase inhibitor that helps to lighten post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, age spots and uv induced pigmentation. It is has been proven to be effective at 1%-2%.

Tranexamic Acid is a derivative of the amino acid lysine. It is a tyrosinase inhibitor that gently lightens/fades forms of hyperpigmentation, including melasma. When applied topically at 2%-5% its results have been shown to be comparable to that of hydroquinone. There is promising research that shows it also helps to reduce redness on the skin.

Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate (PAD) is a water soluble derivative of azelaic acid that inhibits tyrosinase. It is a combination of azelaic acid with the amino acid glycine that brightens post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, hydrates the skin, improves redness and clears blemishes.

Oligopeptide-68 is an encapsulated biomimetic peptide—this means it is a synthetic laboratory produced peptide that mimics a natural occurring peptide. It helps fade hyperpigmentation by inhibiting tyrosinase. Its encapsulation helps it penetrate deeper into the skin.

Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 that has been clinically proven to lighten hyperpigmentation at 2%-5%. Although, there are niacinamide products on the market that offer up to 10%-20%, there is no research that suggests these higher concentrations produce or offer better results. It is more of a marketing strategy to try and make the products more appealing to customers.

Unlike the above tyrosinase inhibitors that suppress melanin production, niacinamide is able to lighten hyperpigmentation by stopping the transfer of melanin to the topmost layer of the skin. Some of its other benefits include strengthening the skin barrier and smoothing the skin.
